Two Guyanese were recently awarded for their entries to a photography and art competition that was held to coincide with the observance of CARICOM Energy Week (CEW) in November last year.

Professional photographer Mr. Keron Bruce and amateur photographer Brian Primo received their prizes at a simple ceremony held at the CARICOM Secretariat. Bruce was awarded for submitting the best photograph in the Professional Category of the competition, while Primo was presented with the second prize for the Amateur Category.

The duo was commended by CARICOM Assistant Secretary-General, Trade and Economic Integration, Mr. Joseph Cox, under whose Directorate Energy falls. Also on hand for the presentation was Dr. Andreas Taeuber, Head of the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit/Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Technical Assistance (GIZ/REETA) Project at the CARICOM Secretariat.

The Photography and Art Competition was held from 12 October to 14 November 2015. The Competition was open to all citizens of CARICOM Member States and sought to capture the entrants’ interpretation of the CEW 2015 theme, ‘EmPOWERING our Sustainable Development’.

The Competition utilised social media to boost Community engagement on energy matters in a fun and social way. Entries were judged through a mix of popularity votes together with the scores of a judging panel.
