Several of the islands pummeled this week by the destructive Hurricane Irma are again under a Hurricane Warning as Jose, now upgraded to a powerful Category 4 Hurricane, continues to roughly follow Irma’s path.
Friday afternoon, Jose was located at latitude 16.4 North, longitude 57.7 West, or about 380 miles (610km) East-South-East of the Northern Leeward Islands. It is moving towards the West-North-West at near 18 miles (30km) per hour. On the forecast track, the Centre is expected to pass near or East of the north-eastern Leeward Islands on Saturday. The maximum sustained winds remain near 150 miles (240 km) per hour with higher gusts.
A Hurricane Warning has been issued for Antigua and Barbuda, Anguilla, St. Marteen/Martin and St. Barthelemy, while a Tropical Storm Watch is in effect for St. Kitts and Nevis, Montserrat and the British Virgin Islands.
Hurricane Irma, earlier this week caused several deaths and widespread damage to housing and infrastructure in the Northern Leeward Islands, with Barbuda, Anguilla, the BVI and St. Martin being the hardest hit.
