Haiti making preparations for CARIFESTA XII
Haiti is currently making preparations to greet and host several thousands of people from the Region and other countries who are expected to converge there for CARIFESTA XII. The festival of arts and culture runs from August 21 to 30 and will feature events across the country.
CARIFESTA, which is the largest cultural and artistic event in the Caribbean, has fused all forms of expression of Latin America and the Caribbean since 1972. It has become a major multicultural and international event that increasingly attracts countries from other continents.
CARIFESTA celebrates diversity and similarity; talent and brotherhood. It gives artists the opportunity to discuss, share experiences, and learn from one another and to the people of the Caribbean, Latin America and the world the opportunity to share their knowledge and traditions.
CARIFESTA XII activities will be held in five cities across Haiti: Port-au-Prince, Jacmel, Cap-Haitien, Gonaives, and Cayes. All disciplines will be featured: dance, cuisine, fashion, cinema, visual arts, literature, music, theatre, arts and crafts.
The production team for CARIFESTA XII includes; Haitian President, His Excellency Michel Joseph Martelly (Honorary Chair), Dithny Joan Raton, Minister of Culture (Honorary Vice-Chair), Elsa Baussan Noel, (President-in-Charge of Coordination),
Peterson Benjamin Noel (Vice President for International Cooperation), Geneviève Louissaint (Secretary-General) Philippe Dodard (Artistic Director), Jean-Michel Lapin (Financial Officer) and Jessy Menos (Head of Accommodations and logistics).
On April 29, the Secretary-General of CARICOM, Ambassador Irwin LaRocque, led a delegation on a mission in Haiti for CARIFESTA XII. The Secretary-General met with President Martelly, Prime Minister Evans Paul and the members of the organising committee for CARIFESTA.
The Haitian government has sought to broker agreements with hotels for special packages and attractive rates for the CARIFESTA season. All standardised rates will be based on hotel quality.
Government and private sector funding has been allocated to make the event possible in Haiti. CARIFESTA in Haiti will be an incredible opportunity for Caribbean artists and creators.
