2014: A Milestone for CARICOM – SG LaRocque

In a New Year Message to the people of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), Secretary-General, Ambassador Irwin LaRocque, reiterated  the integration movement has never been more important than at this time. It is “our route to achieving sustainable development and to delivering the quality of life that our people expect and deserve”, he said.

The Secretary-General described 2014 as a milestone year for the Community and in this context referred to the Community’s first Strategic Plan which covers the years 2015-2019.

Reiterating the Plan’s importance to the Community’s growth and development, the Secretary-General said, its “ implementation… is a major step in CARICOM’s on-going Reform Process … to become more efficient, accountable and above all, increase our responsiveness to the needs of the Community”.

“You the people of the Region should therefore more readily feel the difference that integration makes in your lives”, he continued.

Wishing “the people of CARICOM, Happy Holidays and a Prosperous and Productive New Year”, the Secretary-General projected “the coming year [2015]… would mark for us in CARICOM, the continuation of a dynamic period in our determined efforts to create a sustainable, secure and viable Community for all our peoples”.
