Primary schools face off in Statistics Quiz Competition

Pupils from primary schools in Guyana on Thursday began competing in a Quiz Competition that is being held to observe Caribbean Statistics Day on 15 October, and World Statistics Day on 20 October. Thursday, 15 October marks the seventh annual observance of Caribbean Statistics Day in the Caribbean Community (CARICOM). Caribbean Statistics Day 2015 is being observed under the theme ‘Better Data. Better Lives’.

Caribbean Statistics Day is aimed at recognising the vital role of statistics in improving the daily lives of the peoples of our Community and in raising the profile of statistics and statisticians across the Region.

The week of activities began with the Inter-School Quiz Competition at the Annex of the CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown.The competitions are being hosted by the Regional Statistics Programme, CARICOM Secretariat.

The first Preliminary Competition saw St. Margaret’s Primary competing against Winfer Gardens Primary, with Winfer Gardens Primary winning 115-95, and moving on to the next round.

Also competing against each other on Day 1 of the Preliminary Quiz Competition, were Windsor Forest Primary and Peters Hall Primary with Windsor Forest defeating Peter’s Hall Primary, 95-90.

Winfer Gardens Primary and Windsor Forest Primary schools will battle each other in the Finals.

The competitions continue on Friday 9 October when three of Guyana’s Secondary School students will compete. Those slated to compete in the Secondary School levels are; The Bishops’ High School, Central High School, and West Demerara Secondary.

Both the Primary and Secondary Schools’ Finals will be held on Thursday 15 October 2015.
