Turn spirit of Community into reality – CARICOM SG tells Trade Ministers

The Council for Trade and Economic Development (COTED) of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) began on Thursday with a call by Secretary-General Ambassador Irwin LaRocque for the Region to step up and work together to satisfy the citizenry of the Community.
In remarks at the opening ceremony of the two-day meeting that is underway at the Pegasus Hotel in Georgetown, Guyana, the Secretary-General pointed to the strides taken on other fronts, including the creation of the Community’s first Strategic Plan and the reform of governance and operations of all parts of the Community, beginning with the Secretariat.
This morning, I want to invite Member States to step up in a similar way: to work together as a Community to make concrete progress in advancing the agenda of regional cooperation and integration, thereby achieving tangible benefits for all our peoples.
In other words – turn the spirit of our Community into reality.
– Ambassador Irwin LaRocque
