Major reward for victorious West Indies cricket captain

Captain of the victorious West Indies T20 cricket team Darren Sammy will have the cricket stadium in his native Saint Lucia renamed in his honour.

Saint Lucia’s Prime Minister Dr. Kenny Anthony made the announcement Tuesday afternoon at a welcome home reception for Sammy and fellow Saint Lucian Johnson Charles.  Charles will have a pavilion at the stadium named after him.

Sammy led with Windies Men’s team to the 2016 World T20 title, beating England in the tense Finals on Sunday.  He was also at the helm when the West Indies won their first T20 title in 2012, beating Sri Lanka at home in another exciting Final match.

The Darren Sammy National Cricket Stadium is Saint Lucia’s main venue for international cricket matches and has a seating capacity of 15,000.
