The Caribbean could become one of the world’s largest tobacco-restricted zones in the next decade.

This from Dr James Hospedales, Executive Director at the Caribbean Public Health Agency (CARPHA), at yesterday’s establishment of the Trinidad and Tobago Coalition for Tobacco Control (TTCTC) at the National Library and Information System Authority (NALIS) in Port of Spain.

The coalition will be led by the Trinidad and Tobago Cancer Society (TTCS).

Hospedales said tobacco products and smoking continue to be one of the top contributors to non-communicable diseases in the Caribbean and, in T&T, the numbers are still high for men, women and teenagers who indulge in the habit.
