The people of the Cayman Islands vote in an historic general election today – the first with single candidate constituencies under new election regulations.

Just over twenty-one thousand registered voters are eligible to vote in today’s poll. The race is seen as a straight fight between the incumbent People’s Progressive Movement (PPM) of Premier Mr. Alden McLaughlin, and the main opposition Cayman Democratic Party (CDP) led by Mr. McKeeva Bush. There are also twenty-three independent candidates.
Polling stations which opened at 7:00 this morning will close at 6:00 p.m.
