CARICOM Heads of Government engage new Cuban President
CARICOM Heads of Government met Cuba’s new President His Excellency Miguel Díaz Canel during Thursday’s session of their 39th Regular Meeting in Montego Bay, Jamaica.
It was the first time the Cuban Leader was meeting the CARICOM grouping since assuming office in April. His predecessor Raul Castro represented Cuba at the last triennial CARICOM-Cuba Summit held in Antigua and Barbuda in December last year at which the two sides discussed stronger cooperation in disaster risk management and in climate change adaptation and mitigation, among other matters.
Thursday’s talks were expected to focus on further strengthening ties with a new Cuban leader at the helm.
