Comment: Prime Minister Skerrit on Ross University’s relocation from Dominica

In every disappointment there are blessings and we have to look for them and see how we will work to achieve them. Many of us are saddened by Ross University’s departure, but that can’t be seen as the end of our country. I want to make it clear that it was NOT contributing 30% to our GDP.

Moving forward, the opening of the four world class hotels being constructed using the CBI programme’s funds will contribute to our economy in a more diverse and impactful way than anything we had before.

During my site visit to the Jungle Bay Resort & Spa today, its developer Sam Raphael informed me that 90% of the 120 workers on site are locals.

When it opens in March 2019, it is Dominicans who will be trained and employed full-time to handle the operations of the hotel. In addition, all of the farmers and fishermen in the area will be engaged to steadily supply the resort.

My vision, which is already being manifested, is for Dominica to continually thrive by making investments in its people, in ways that will help Dominicans create further employment for themselves.
