Up to early Tuesday morning there was no officially declared winner of Monday’s general elections in  St. Kitts-Nevis and the State-owned ZIZ Television reported that the Electoral Office had halted the public announcement of the results.

The traditional announcement of the count from individual ballot boxes began just before 11:00 on Monday night and continued into the early hours of the morning. The majority of seats  however remained undeclared.

There were eleven seats at stake in Monday’s elections – eight on St. Kitts and three on Nevis.  The ruling St. Kitts and Nevis Labour Party (SKNLP) and its electoral partner the Nevis Reformation Party (NRP) were challenged by Team Unity – an alliance of the main opposition Peoples Action Movement (PAM), the Peoples Labour Party (PLP) and the Concerned Citizens Movement (CCM).

The Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Secretariat has an Electoral Observer Mission in St. Kitts-Nevis monitoring the electoral process.
