Its Election Day in Guyana
The people of Guyana vote today, Monday 11 May 2015 in General and Regional Elections.
The Official List of Electors released by the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) puts the list of registered voters at 570,787. They will elect a President and a 65-member National Assembly from among candidates presented by eight political parties.
The 2,229 polling stations, located country-wide, will be opened from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
The Caribbean Community (CARICOM) has mounted an Election Observation Mission to monitor today’s elections. The ten member Mission is headed by Mr. Earl Anthony Simpson, Deputy Director of the Electoral Commission of Jamaica, with Ms Josephine Amelita Tamai, Chief Elections Officer, Elections and Boundaries Department of Belize as Deputy Chief of Mission. The other members of the Mission include experts in Electoral Management and Administration from Antigua and Barbuda, The Bahamas, Barbados, Dominica, St. Lucia, St. Vincent and the Grenadines and Trinidad and Tobago.
