Preliminary figures provided by the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) on Thursday afternoon, show that A Partnership for National Unity+Alliance for Change (APN+AFC) coalition, led by retired Brigadier David Granger won the May 11 Elections. The official declaration of the results of the elections is expected shortly.
These are the results announced for the General Elections:

TUF (The United Force) – 880
URP (United Republican Party) – 338
NIP (National Independence Party) – 561
IP (Independent Party) – 338
The CARICOM Election Observer Mission which monitored Monday’s elections reported that the voting process was transparent, free and fair. The Mission, in a post-election day Statement, said it hoped that the results would be accepted and respected.
At a press conference following GECOM’s announcement of the results, Presidential candidate of the People’s Progressive Party/Civic, Donald Ramotar, indicated that he could not accept the results and was not prepared to concede that his party had lost the elections. He called for a recount of the ballots.
