Regional countries must work together to prevent food-borne illnesses

The alarming fact that food-borne illnesses have increased by 26 percent in this Region since 2010 took centre-stage over the past three days as several health organisations met to discuss and develop efforts to address the situation.

Executive Director of one of the agencies, the Caribbean Public Health Agency (CARPHA) Dr. C. James Hospedales highlighted the need for Regional collaboration as this was becoming one of the most common public health issues in the Region.

He stated that, “The meeting will continue to build capacity in integrated ‘one health’ food borne disease surveillance and food safety, as well as multi-sectoral collaboration for improving food safety in the Caribbean.”
