Haiti is ready to host CARIFESTA and welcomes the interest shown by the other CARICOM member countries.

This was stated by Haiti’s Ambassador to CARICOM  H.E. Peterson Noel in a press conference on CARIFESTA XII held at the CARICOM headquarters in Georgetown, Guyana on Tuesday, 16June. Ambassador Noel, who joined the press conference from Haiti via video conference, stressed that “At CARIFESTA Haiti will celebrate Caribbean diversity”

Activities for this 12th edition of CARIFESTA (Caribbean Festival of Arts) will be held in five cities across Haiti over the period 21 – 30 August 2015.

Programme Manager for Culture at the CARICOM Secretariat Dr. Hilary Brown in her remarks at the press conference said the CARICOM Secretariat was very pleased that the Government of Haiti offered to host the Festival. She said the Secretariat saw culture and CARIFESTA as important avenues for further integration of Haiti into the Caribbean Community. According to Dr. Brown “culture is a unifying force and a cornerstone in our integration movement.”

She said the Government of Haiti and the Host Country Management team were very busy making preparations for CARIFESTA XII and invited all media to help keep the Region’s people updated on this celebration of the Community’s art, culture and togetherness.

CARIFESTA is a multi-disciplinary, mega event that showcases the cultural expressions of artists in 30 countries in the Caribbean region. It was initiated by the Heads of Government of the Caribbean Community in 1972 to celebrate the arts, foster a vision of Caribbean unity and to positively advance Caribbean culture regionally and internationally.
