Hurricane Fred was moving through the Cape Verde Islands in the far eastern Atlantic Ocean near the coast of Africa as of Monday morning.

After passing through the Cape Verde Islands, Fred will turn west-northwestward over the open Atlantic Ocean. Southwesterly winds aloft, stable air and cooler water temperatures should begin to weaken Fred later in the week.

There is no indication at this time that Fred will come anywhere near the Caribbean or North America based on the latest computer model guidance and the state of the atmosphere. In fact, Fred is forecast to weaken to a tropical depression in about five days.
