Athletes compete for CARICOM 10K title on Sunday

The twelfth Annual CARICOM 10K race is happening this Sunday at 6:00 am in Georgetown, Guyana, under the Theme ‘Promoting Healthy and Peaceful Societies’.

The CARICOM 10K race is held to coincide with the Regular Meeting of the Conference of Heads of Government of CARICOM each year. This year, the Meeting will be held at the Pegasus in Georgetown, Guyana, 5-6 July. The opening ceremony on July 4 will be at the National Cultural Centre at 5:00pm.

The race begins at the CARICOM Secretariat. Athletes will proceed along the Railway Embankment Road, turning left at Ogle Junction until the Rupert Craig Highway. Runners will then make a left onto the highway up to JB Latchmansingh Road then right onto Thomas Lands and continue where the course turns right into the National Park ending at the Children’s Monument.

In addition to the 10K race, there will be a 5K event which will start at Pump House Road turning left onto the Rupert Craig Highway and follow the same course as the 10K race.  A 1,500M Children’s Race, which will be run on the lower track of the National Park, will also form part of the proceedings.

There will be cash prizes for the first, second and third place winners of the male and female 10K races. All other participants will receive a medal of participation. Support for this event, including prizes, has been secured from Digicel Guyana, Courts Guyana, Demerara Distillers Limited, Eureka Laboratories and CARICOM Rice Mills Limited.
