CYAsMy experience chairing the opening ceremony for the 26th Intersessional Meeting of the Conference of Heads of Government of the Caribbean Community would not have been possible if it wasn’t for being a CARICOM Youth Ambassador (CYA) for my beautiful country.

I embarked on this journey as CYA knowing that it would be life-changing, but seeing it come into play left me lost for words. After we were done with the opening ceremony I thought to myself that it could not get any better, but I was definitely proven wrong. I was actually allowed to sit in and observe the deliberations and at this point I was sure that no matter how many times I may say it, I could never thank CARICOM enough for the opportunity given to me because of the existence of the CYA Corps. Involving young people at this level makes an impact that can’t possibly be described. Today will definitely stay with me for the rest of my life.

When looking back on the opening ceremony and the deliberations that took place it is clear that you don’t have to hop on a plane to make a difference, you can definitely do so at home, starting on home ground. I look forward to the continuation of the involvement of young people in the Caribbean Community as we push forward continuing to make a positive difference.
