Barbadians continue support for storm-damaged Dominica
Barbadians walking and cycling to raise funds for Dominica’s recovery efforts post Erika.
Tropical storm Erika hit Dominica with heavy rains on 27 August leaving more than 20 deaths and causing widespread damage to the country’s roads, bridges and houses. Caribbean Community Member States have been at the forefront of assistance to their sister territory, with contributions from governments, organisations, groups and individuals.
The walk and cycle races followed a celebrity cricket match between a West Indies Cricket Board President’s XI and a University of the West Indies Vice Chancellor’s XI, held on Saturday night, which attracted several thousand cricket fans.
