CARICOM Chairman gets close-up view of Dominica’s storm damage – PHOTOS
CARICOM Chairman, Prime Minister Rt. Hon. Freundel Stuart of Barbados on Wednesday got a first hand view of some of the damaged that Tropical Storm Erika caused in Dominica.
The Chairman joined Dominica’s Prime Minister Hon. Roosevelt Skerrit, CARICOM Secretary-General, Ambassador Irwin LaRocque and other officials on an aerial and ground tour with specific focus on the Coulibistrie and Checkhall areas (see photos compliments OPM Dominica) The Prime Ministers and Secretary-General held a Press Briefing after the tour, during which Prime Minister Stuart pledged an initial US100,000 to immediately assist with the relief effort and said he would further discuss the widespread nature of the devastation with his fellow CARICOM Heads.
Tropical Storm Erika hit Dominica with torrential rains on Thursday 27 August, leaving more than 30 deaths and causing widespread damage. Government has declared nine special disaster areas across the country.
