The Ideal Caribbean Youth:

At the Regional Forum on Youth Crime and Violence held in Georgetown, Guyana last week, the CARICOM Secretariat launched three one-minute animated public service announcements on the topics of bullying, love and belonging, and the Ideal Caribbean Youth.

One of the areas that needs to be addressed in CARICOM’s Social Development and Crime Prevention Action Plan is that of public education, more specifically, sensitisation campaigns and the engagement of the media as partners in youth crime prevention. In this regard, the arts and culture are considered effective tools/vehicles for addressing various social issues, especially when targeting young audiences.

In 2015, the CARICOM Secretariat worked on a project to develop culturally sensitive edutainment material on youth violence in which the tool of animation was being used. Animation is an art form that can create new opportunities for young people. The animated productions were made possible under the CARICOM-Spain Citizen Security Project and are meant for raising awareness on Youth-on-Youth Violence in CARICOM.

The public service announcements form part of the CARICOMYOUTHWHY# Series ‘Reducing Youth on Youth Violence’ and the videos will be available on the website at http://youthviolenceforum.caricom.org, on Youtube and Vimeo. You may also watch them in the clips below.
