CARICOM SG meets newly sworn in Suriname President

Secretary-General of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), Ambassador Irwin LaRocque (c) met President of Suriname, H.E. Desi Bouterse following the President’s inauguration ceremony on Wednesday.

President Bouterse, who was accompanied at the meeting by his Minister of Foreign Affairs (r) underscored the continuing importance of CARICOM.

Ambassador LaRocque was among regional and international dignitaries who attended Wednesday’s inauguration at the National Indoor Stadium in Paramaribo. Mr. Bouterse’s National Democratic Party won 26 of the 51 seats in the National Assembly in elections held in May.
