CARICOM SG, staff extend sympathy to family of Justice Bruce-Lyle

The Secretary-General and staff of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Secretariat have extended condolences to the family of Justice Frederick Bruce-Lyle (retired) of St Vincent and the Grenadines who passed away on Friday, 22 April, 2016. The Secretary-General and staff also expressed gratitude for his service to the Region.
Justice Bruce-Lyle was a member of the CARICOM Marijuana Commission mandated by the CARICOM Conference of Heads of Government.
He is survived by his wife and two daughters. Justice Bruce-Lyle’s passing comes just over a year after his retirement which took effect on February 15, 2015.
From 1979 to 1984, Bruce-Lyle was a State advocate in Zambia, before moving to the Caribbean where he served as a Magistrate in Belize (1984–89); Saint Vincent and the Grenadines (1989–93); the British Virgin Islands (1993–97); and Antigua and Barbuda (1997–99).
The Ghana-born retired judge made St. Vincent and the Grenadines his home acquiring citizenship through naturalisation. Bruce-Lyle is the second son of Ghana’s Supreme Court judge and Chief Justice of Zambia, William Bruce-Lyle, and the grandson of Sir Leslie McCarthy. He was educated at Mfantsipim School, Cape-Coast, and the University of Ghana, where he attained a Bachelor of Laws degree.
In 1999, Bruce-Lyle was appointed by the Judicial and Legal Services Commission of CARICOM as a High Court Justice of the Eastern Caribbean Supreme Court based in St. Vincent and the Grenadines. In 2013, Justice Bruce-Lyle became the longest serving High Court Judge.
