CARICOM SG tours Citadel in Cap Haitien during CARIFESTA XII

Secretary-General of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Ambassador Irwin LaRocque, during his visit to Haiti for CARIFESTA XII, visited Cap Haitien, one of the five cities in the country where the festival is being hosted. While in Cap Haitien the SG toured the Citadel, one of Haiti’s major tourist attractions. The Citadel, is a large mountaintop fortress and was designated by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) as a World Heritage Site in 1982. It was built by Henri Christophe, – a key leader during the Haitian slave rebellion, after Haiti gained independence from France at the beginning of the 19th century.
