The Roman Catholic Bishop of the Diocese of St John’s -Basseterre Kenneth Richards believes Antigua and Barbuda and other countries in the Region are well-placed “at this time” to move away from the London-based Privy Council and to accede to the appellate jurisdiction of the Caribbean Court of Justice (CCJ).

Bishop Richards said while the debate continues among those who are for or against the CCJ, the Caribbean has the legal luminaries and other qualified persons to guide the process along.

“I think we have the capacity, potential and legal luminaries who can ensure the directive and support structures are in place for our advancement as a people…As a people, we are ready for the CCJ,” Bishop Richards said.
