Central High, Winfer Gardens Primary victorious in Statistics competition

Central High and Winfer Gardens Primary emerged victorious in the Secondary and Primary segments of the Statistics Inter-School Quiz Competition, the finals of which were held at the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Secretariat, Georgetown, Guyana, on Thursday.

The competition was one of the activities to mark Caribbean Statistics Day which was observed on 15 October, 2015, under the theme ‘Better Data. Better lives’. The competition began last week.

The Central High team comprised Melissa Adams, Sovindra Koomal, Crystal Wills and Kiven Bonds. They beat the West Demerara Secondary School in the finals. The Bishops’ High School gained third place.

In the Primary School category, Winfer Gardens, with team members Safira Williams, Antone Herod, Alexandria Forrester and Jochen Camacho, beat Windsor Forest Primary. Third place went to St. Margaret’s Primary School.

Ashana King of Windsor Forest Primary and  Sung Shin Chu of West Demerara Secondary School won prizes for being the top competitors in their categories.

Caribbean Statistics Day is aimed at recognising the vital role of statistics in improving the daily lives of the peoples of our Community and in raising the profile of statistics and statisticians across the Region.

The competition was hosted by the Regional Statistics Unit, CARICOM Secretariat.
