Prime Minister, Roosevelt Skerrit has stressed the government’s commitment to the harnessing and development of geothermal energy in Dominica.

At the launching of a three-day follow-up workshop on Sustainable Energy and Climate Resilience on Monday, he stated that despite the financial burden posed by the effects of Tropical Storm Erika, the government is “absolutely committed” to the geothermal project.

“Here in Dominica, I want to say to the public that we are absolutely committed to the geothermal, starting this very important project,” Skerrit said. “And, notwithstanding the challenges of financing that we are experiencing and the devastation caused by Erika and the cost of reconstruction, the long-term development of our country rests, in large measure, to our pursuit of the geothermal project… whether we go with it alone, or with a partner, that project will be pursued by the government of Dominica.”
