Haiti’s President promises wide national consultations in selection of new Prime Minister

President Jovenel Moise of Haiti:  “I will continue to hold consultations with all institutions: Parliament, political parties and organizations throughout all sectors of society so that I can appoint a Prime Minister to conduct the affairs of the Government.”

President Moise addressed the nation on Saturday night following the resignation of  Prime Minister Jack Guy Lafontant in the wake of violent public protest over a proposal to increase fuel prices.  The protest continued despite the decision to scrap the proposed increase.

The President, in Saturday night’s address cautioned that “violence does not walk hand in hand with development and democracy.”

“We must end all these bad practices that keeps Haiti moving backwards”, he urged.”
