Haiti’s President Michel Martelly has announced that the run off vote to chose the country’s next leader will go ahead this Sunday 24 January.

The race will be between agricultural entrepreneur Jovenel Moise, an agricultural entrepreneur from the Parti Haitien Tet Kale PHTK party, who got 33 percent of the votes in the first round on 25 October and second place finisher Jude Celestin an engineer who ran in the first round under the banner of the Alternative League for Progress and the haitian Empowerment (LAPEL), and who has been threatening to boycott the run off in the absence of electoral reforms.  Fifty-four candidates took part in the first round.
