Indian Supreme Court welcomes CCJ President

CCJ, Port of Spain – President of the Caribbean Court of Justice (CCJ), Sir Dennis
Byron, recently was invited to sit on the bench of the Supreme Court of India.
The CCJ President was on vacation in India and visited the court as a part of his continuing efforts to see how other apex courts function and to continue to ferret out best practices that could be beneficial to the Caribbean Court of Justice.
While observing the proceedings, he was recognised by the presiding judge, Hon. Mr. Justice Jagdish Singh Khehar, who requested that he join them on the bench. His presence was reported in a number of newspapers including the Indian Express of July 9, 2015.
Sir Dennis Byron stated, “it was indeed an honour and a pleasure to sit on the bench of the Indian Supreme Court. I had only meant to visit the Court and was quite surprised when I was invited to join the Bench.”
The CCJ President commented on the superb architecture of the court, the facilities provided for the judges, and the high quality of the arguments.
The CCJ President has returned to the Court and is in process of finalising matters for the end of Caribbean Court of Justice’s judicial year on July 31. (CCJ Press Release)
