Jamaica elections: 152 candidates to face electorate
The Electoral Office of Jamaica (EOJ) is reporting that 152 candidates were nominated yesterday to contest the upcoming general elections on February 25.
The ruling People’s National Party of Prime Minister Portia Simpson-Miller – 63 candidates
The main Opposition Jamaica Labour Party of Opposition Leader Andrew Holness – 63 candidates
National Democratic Movement – 7 candidates
Other parties – 9 candidates
Independent – 10 candidates
Director of Elections, Orrette Fisher says the nomination process was smooth and he received no report of any incidents.
Meanwhile, Fisher says the EOJ will now be moving to process the nomination information and begin preparations for the February 25 general elections.
