Kick ‘em Jenny activity decreases; earthquakes off Barbados less frequent

GEORGE’S, Grenada – The UWI Seismic Research Centre (SRC) is reporting that the activity at underwater volcano Kick ‘em Jenny is decreasing, even though the orange alert remains in place.

The earthquakes that have been occurring to the northeast of Barbados in the last week and a half have also been declining in frequency.

The SRC gave the updates yesterday, as some residents of Grenada, Barbados, St. Vincent and Trinidad and Tobago remained on edge since the orange alert – indicating highly elevated level of seismic and/or fumarolic activity or other unusual activity – was issued last Thursday, July 23 after strong, continuous signals were recorded at the volcano located 8 km north of Grenada, from 1:25 a.m. to 3 a.m. that day. There had been more than 200 micro and small earthquakes between July 11 and July 23.
