On Independence anniversary, CARICOM SG hails progress of St. Kitts and Nevis

Secretary-General of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), Ambassador Irwin LaRocque, has praised the progress that St. Kitts and Nevis has made over the past 34 years.

St. Kitts and Nevis observes its 34th Independence anniversary today. In a congratulatory message to Prime Minister Dr. the Hon. Timothy Harris, the Secretary-General said that the belief, resilience and determination that its government and people have shown in their nation-building quest was “most admirable”.

On behalf of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), I extend warmest congratulations to you and the People of St. Kitts and Nevis on the occasion of your country’s Thirty-Fourth Anniversary of Independence.

This year’s theme, ‘Youth, Vision, Integrity, Securing our Nation’s Prosperity’, speaks to the commitment and shared vision of the people of St. Kitts and Nevis in its continued strides for a better future.  It is also a call on the new generation to participate in the sustainable development process of the country.

Honourable Prime Minister, the progress made by St. Kitts and Nevis over these past thirty-four years is commendable.  The continued belief, resilience and determination shown by the Government and People of St. Kitts and Nevis as they strive to build their nation is most admirable even as the forces of nature pose severe challenges.

The Caribbean Community is most appreciative of the vital role that the Government of St. Kitts and Nevis plays in contributing to the integration process and in building the Community’s capacity and advancing development in the area of Human Resource Development, Health and HIV/AIDS.  I look forward to your Government’s continued leadership in ensuring that, at both the regional and international levels, this critical issue remains at the forefront of discussions. 

Honorable Prime Minister, I join with the Caribbean Community in extending best wishes for the continued advancement of St. Kitts and Nevis and the well-being of its People.”
