Quake rattles Caribbean
A 7.3 magnitude earthquake on Tuesday afternoon shook Venezuela and several Caribbean countries, and Seismologist, Dr. Joan Lutchman, is warning citizens to take precautions as more earthquakes are likely to be just as strong, if not stronger.

Reports state that Trinidad and Tobago, Barbados, Guyana, Dominica, Grenada, Suriname, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Saint Lucia and other countries in the Region felt the quake around 5:30 pm.

Trinidad and Tobago media houses are reporting structural damage in some areas. The country has activated its disaster management units and has assured that no tsunami warning is in effect.
The Department of Public Information in Guyana said that the earthquake occurred 20NNW north of Yaguaraparo, Venezuela. Residents in Georgetown, Guyana’s capital, felt the earth shake. On Facebook, one person said it was “intense” on the country’s East Coast while another said there was “gentle shaking” in southern Georgetown. Some persons said they felt nothing. Earth tremors and quakes are unusual in Guyana and persons were commenting about the length of the episode which lasted between one and five minutes, according to reports.
