Region rich in renewable energy

THE Caribbean region has tremendous potential to exploit in the area of renewable energy, including geothermal, photovoltaic, wind and biomass.

That’s according to Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to Trinidad, Barbados and the OECS, Dr. Lutz Gorgens.

In fact, he is adamant that such potential often exceeds domestic consumption. He made the point while speaking during the opening of the Fourth Caribbean Sustainable Energy Forum (CSEF), which took place at the Caribbean Development Bank (CDB) last week, as he noted that there is a “striking contradiction between the untapped potential of inexhaustible domestic resource, and the costly purchase of finite foreign supply”.
