Reviewing the Region’s Development and Poverty Eradication priorities
Prime Minister of Belize Mr Dean Barrow and CARICOM Secretary-General Ambassador Irwin LaRocque will address the Regional Preparatory Meeting for the mid-term review of the Samoa Pathway, Monday 6 August 2018, in Belize.
The Ceremony begins at 3:00 pm, Belize Time (4:00 pm Jamaica time, 5:00 pm Eastern Caribbean Time) and will be streamed live on CARICOM Today – http://today.caricom.org and on Facebook – https://www.facebook.com/caricom.org
The Samoa Pathway, or the SIDS Accelerated Modalities of Action Pathway, represent priorities of Small Island and Low-lying Developing States (SIDS) – which include CARICOM Member States, for sustainable development and poverty eradication. It was adopted at the Third International Conference on Small Island Developing States held in Apia, Samoa in September 2014.
The United Nations General Assembly has mandated that a one-day High Level Review of the progress made in addressing the SIDS priorities should be held in September 2019 in New York.
Ahead of next year’s review, a number of regional preparatory meetings are being held to examine progress at the national and regional levels. The Government of Belize is hosting the Caribbean SIDS Preparatory meeting and the Regional Partnership Dialogue from 6 – 9 August. The outcomes will first feed into an interregional meeting to be held in Samoa in October this year.
