Saint Lucia PM welcomes Prince, sends climate change message

Prime Minister Honourable Allen M. Chastanet officially welcomed His Royal Highness Prince Henry of Wales to Saint Lucia on Thursday evening and also thanked Britain for its continued support to the island.
Following the Prince’s arrival in Saint Lucia on 24th November 2016 and the inspection of the Guard, a very brief ceremony was held at Pointe Seraphine where the Prince was presented with a plaque from the Government and People of Saint Lucia.
Prime Minister Allen Chastanet explained the reason for the gift: “Saint Lucia’s relations with Britain remain sound and your visit here today bears testimony to that. If we needed further evidence of our bond with the British we got it in October of 2010 when our country was ravaged by Hurricane Tomas, the strongest weather event to hit out island in most of our lifetimes. Within 48 hours after we were struck by this immense hurricane that left hundreds homeless, the British were on hand to provide assistance. The hardest hit areas of Soufriere and Fond St Jacques benefitted from water, food, medicine and other immediate necessities which were airlifted from the British Battleship HMS Manchester which was anchored off the coast of Soufriere.”
