Southern Caribbean Islands brace for Tropical Storm ‘Don’

Grenada and St. Vincent and the Grenadines are today under a Tropical Storm Warning while Barbados and Saint Lucia are under a Tropical Storm Watch as the latest Atlantic weather system – “Don” churns its way towards the Southern Caribbean. Trinidad and Tobago, Aruba, Curacao and Bonaire have also been asked to monitor Don’s progress.
The 8:00 a.m. forecast puts Tropical Storm Don at 320 miles/515 kilometers East of Grenada (11.4N and 57.0W), travelling towards the West at 18 miles per hour (mph) with maximum sustained winds at 50 mph (85 km/h).
Countries in the warning area can expect storm conditions by late afternoon and the watch area should be affected by tonight. Don is expected to produce 3 – 6 inches of rainfall which could lead to dangerous flash floods and mudslides, especially in mountainous areas.
CIMH and CIMH – CARICOM Institutions responsible for weather monitoring and disaster management, are already actively following the approaching storm.
