The CARICOM Youth Ambassadors from Suriname, Eugenio Bruce and Samaidy Akima,  recently embarked on research from which the preliminary results revealed that  Surinamese youth  desired  more information about CARICOM.

A survey was conducted among more than 1,500 students from primary and secondary schools.

We’re not completely done with the analysis of the results. What we can already state is that there is more information needed about  CARICOM by this target group, “says Bruce.

To achieve this, the ambassadors and their youth officers visited various ministries and CARICOM institutions in Suriname to know what information about CARICOM is available and how they work together on projects.

We want to start or intensify the cooperation with these institutions and ministries. They are important partners that can provide enough information in the form of books, documents and folders, “Akima adds.

Projects will be implemented in the city and districts of Suriname to share the information with the Surinamese youth. The final results of the research will be published in December. Some of the ministries and institutions that were visited are the Ministry of Trade and Industry (CSME Department), the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (CARICOM Department), Caribbean Agricultural Health and Food Safety Agency (CAHFSA) and the Caribbean Regional Information and Translation Institute (CRITI). The CARICOM Youth Ambassadors have planned more visits later this year and in 2017.
