Surinamese artists donate painting to CARICOM Secretariat
A group of artists from Suriname who were in Guyana to showcase their work at the Suriname Art Expo, on Friday presented the CARICOM Secretary-General with a painting for the CARICOM Secretariat. The presentation took place at the CARICOM Secretariat. The painting was a collaborative effort of all the artists whose work was on exhibition from April 19-21, 2017. The artists were from the Federation of Visual Artists in Suriname(FVAS).
In a brief address to the artists, CARICOM Secretary-General, Ambassador Irwin LaRocque, welcomed them to Guyana and commended them for the work that they were doing which he said was important in enhancing the culture of the Region. He also encouraged them to expand their exhibition to other CARICOM Member States.
The exhibition at the Umana Yana in Georgetown was part one of an exchange programme between Suriname and Guyana and will include a return visit of Guyanese artists to Suriname.
