CARICOM Committee of Ambassadors discussing key issues of integration

Ambassadors of Member States accredited to CARICOM are meeting in Guyana Tuesday to deliberate on a number of key matters of importance to the Caribbean Community.

The CARICOM Committee  of Ambassadors is an important element in the Community’s governance structure, focusing on advancing the integration movement, and providing strategic advice and recommendations to the Community Council towards achieving that goal.  The Community Council, which comprises Ministers responsible for CARICOM Affairs in Member States and which is the second highest organ of the Community,  meets on Friday, also in Guyana.

Two new Ambassadors to CARICOM Accredited

Developing the world’s first climate resilient countries is a key focus for the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) for 2018 which promises to be a year of “rebuilding and growth,” CARICOM Secretary-General, Ambassador Irwin LaRocque said Friday 12 January.

He was at the time accrediting new ambassadors of Barbados and St. Vincent and the Grenadines to CARICOM at the Headquarters of the CARICOM Secretariat in Georgetown, Guyana.

Her Excellency Veronica Griffith, Plenipotentiary Representative of Barbados to CARICOM; and His Excellency Allan Alexander, Plenipotentiary Representative of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines to CARICOM were accredited in a short ceremony which preceded the 6th Meeting of the CARICOM Committee of Ambassadors. The Ambassadors are in conference Friday ahead of a Meeting of the Community Council of Ministers on Monday 15 January.

Secretary-General LaRocque told the newly accredited ambassadors that as Members of the Committee, they can support the future direction of integration, and play a significant role as the Community advances its climate resilience agenda. (more…)

CARICOM Committee of Ambassador holds 6th Meeting

6th Meeting-Committee of AmbassadorsThe CARICOM Committee of Ambassadors is continuing its role of providing strategic guidance to connect national and regional agendas in the integration architecture.

The Committee is today holding its Sixth Meeting at the CARICOM Secretariat in Georgetown, Guyana under the Chairmanship of Haiti’s Ambassador to CARICOM, HE Noel Peterson.

Established in 2015 through an agreement by CARICOM Heads of Government at their 26th Intersessional Meeting in The Bahamas, the Committee, comprising Ambassadors accredited to CARICOM, supports the Community Council of Ministers, which is scheduled to meet in Guyana on Monday. The Committee works closely with the Organs and Bodies of the Community and the Secretariat to sustain an efficient system of consultations at the national and regional levels to advance the implementation of decisions.

The Committee today welcomed its two newest members, whose accreditation ceremony preceded the meeting – the Ambassador of Barbados to CARICOM HE Veronica Griffith and the Ambassador of St. Vincent and the Grenadines to CARICOM HE Allan Alexander.
