CARICOM, India hold first Joint Commission Meeting

The first Caribbean Community (CARICOM)-India Joint Commission Meeting commenced at the Georgetown, Guyana Headquarters of the CARICOM Secretariat Tuesday morning with the parties lauding the long-standing relations that exist between them.
In his remarks, CARICOM Secretary-General Ambassador Irwin LaRocque said that the Indian Government was an important partner for the Caribbean Region. With Embassies and High Commissions in four CARICOM States (Guyana, Jamaica, Suriname and Trinidad and Tobago) as well as having an Ambassador accredited to CARICOM, he said India has well established its presence in the Region.
Secretary-General LaRocque said the meeting allowed for the exchange views on ways to enhance bilateral collaboration in various fields and issues on the international stage and to further strengthen relations between CARICOM and India.
It will undoubtedly further the scope of collaboration between the Caribbean Community and India and also pave the way for regular political exchanges at a higher level,” he stated.
