CARICOM Energy Unit launches website
‘Knowing is always the start’ – Dr. Devon Gardner
The Energy Unit of the CARICOM Secretariat on Friday launched its redesigned website at energy.caricom.org
The launch took the form of a webinar that brought together energy stakeholders, with interventions by Professor Stephan Gift, Pro-Vice-Chancellor, Graduate Studies and Research, University of the West Indies, St. Augustine and Mr. Sigmund Kluckner, Senior Project Manager, Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Partnership (REEEP).
Dr. Devon Gardner, Programme Manager of the Energy Unit at the CARICOM Secretariat provided the context in which the site was being launched, while Ms. Nadia Mohammed, Project Officer in the Energy Unit, gave an overview of the site.
The attractive, user-friendly site is chock full of information on the various arms of the Secretariat’s energy programme and its development partners, information on the status of national energy developments in the form of report cards, past and ongoing and upcoming events. One of the new features is a CARICOM Energy Knowledge Hub to support the implementation of the Caribbean Sustainable Energy Roadmap and Strategy (C-SERMS).
According to Dr. Gardner, the website aimed to provide the Community with a wide array of information, and to allow all participants in the energy space to have a window through which to view what was happening in the Region on the sustainable energy front.
“The question has been asked ‘what will this (website) do for enhancement of the knowledge base’? The point is knowing is always the start and with new knowledge, better information is generated and better decisions can be taken: decisions on where we can put out efforts to make the most meaningful and impact-ful decisions…”he said.
