Trade Ministers mark passing of Sir Alister with moment of silence

Trade Ministers of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) on Monday marked the passing of former CARICOM Secretary-General, Sir Alister McIntyre. Sir Alister, 87, died earlier in April in Jamaica.

Amb. Irwin  LaRocque, CARICOM Secretary-General, in remarks at the opening ceremony of the Forty-Eighth Meeting of the Council for Trade and Economic Development underway in Georgetown, Guyana, paid tribute to Sir Alister, and led the Meeting in observing a moment of silence .

Amb. LaRocque recalled that Sir Alister was the second Secretary-General of CARICOM serving from 1974-77. Sir Alister was also appointed by Heads of Government as the Chief Technical Adviser to the Caribbean Regional Negotiating Machinery, which was the forerunner to the current Office of Trade Negotiations. He was also appointed to the West Indian Commission.
