Jamaicans vote for change – Holness at the helm

The Jamaica Labour Party, under Andrew Holness, won a close 33 – 30 victory in yesterday’s general elections, ending the reign of the People’s National Party Administration of Ms Portia Simpson-Miller after just one term.
Mr Holness had served a short three-month stint as Prime Minister from October 2011 in the run up to the last elections which he lost to Ms Simpson-Miller 42 seats to 21. He returned to gain 12 additional seats in the latest poll.
Yesterday’s elections were monitored by an eleven-member CARICOM Election Observation Mission which is expected to issue a preliminary report shortly.
