Staff at the CARICOM Secretariat will again be showcasing their talents in their annual Staff Talent Week of Activities. The CARICOM Staff Talent Celebration 2016 will be held under the theme “Create, Educate and Celebrate CARICOM’s Diversity”. The activity will be officially declared opened in the CARICOM Secretariat’s Large Conference Room, Turkeyen, Guyana on Monday, 7 November at 2:00p.m. The talents of the staff will be highlighted in various ways including art, craft, horticulture, fashion design, photography, the performing arts and multi-media.
The activities kicked off with a zumba dance session to help keep staff fit and healthy. Other activities include a “How to Show”, an entrepreneurship workshop, a culinary exhibition, a lip syncing competition and a grand fashion show on Friday.
According to key organizer of the event Ms. Vanessa Stephney it all began in September 2002 at the Staff Recreational Facility at 57 High Street, Georgetown. It was the first CARICOM Staff Talent Celebration under the theme “Diversity – one organization, many talents” . Since then, it has become an annual celebration.
Ms. Stephney said some of the proceeds from this year’s Grand Market Place Auction will be used to contribute towards the relief efforts in Haiti and The Bahamas. In the Grand Market Place Auction, staff donate various items such as paintings to be auctioned to the highest bidder.
This year’s celebration, following in the tradition of previous years, is expected to be a resounding success culturally and financially. The usual incentives are being offered (trophies and prizes) and participants’ excitement has been mounting as the time approaches …. This event has grown significantly over the years and greatly assists in the building of morale at the Secretariat, Ms. Stephney said
