Belizeans vote to send territorial dispute with Guatemala to ICJ
Belizeans have voted to send the territorial dispute with Guatemala to the International Court of Justice (ICJ).
A referendum was held on Wednesday, 8 May 2019, with more than 53 000 persons voting to refer the dispute to the ICJ. Total number of ballot papers counted was 96 417, according to the Chief Elections Officer, Ms. Josephine Tamai.
A CARICOM Election Observer Mission, headed by Mr. Ian Browne of Barbados, was mounted for the referendum.
