Executive Director of the Caribbean Disaster Emergency Management Agency (CDEMA), Ronald Jackson, is imploring citizens to practise fire safety.

Pointing to prevailing dry and windy conditions and the increase in bush fires here and in other Caribbean nations, he noted that it would not take much for a fire to spread rapidly.

“I think that we have to encourage and call for more responsible behaviour at the household level in terms of how we set fires and to refrain from setting unmanaged fires, because this is certainly burdening the State in terms of responding to those situations, which are in many instances illegal and diverting the resources from responding to other fires that may occur, threatening the lives of others,” he stressed.
