Grenada appoints First Response Team, sends help – Dominica
Grenada’s Prime Minister Dr. the Right Honourable has appointed a First Response team that is getting ready to leave Grenada for Dominica to aid in relief efforts.
The team, led by Minister of Health, Honourable Nickolas Steele, and comprising a pathologist, Deputy Police Commissioner, Franklin Redhead, Head of the Coast Guard, as well as a senior engineer, will leave Island sometime before daybreak Sunday, August 30th.
Due to the flight constraints in Storm-ravaged Dominica, the team will travel on a yacht through private arrangements and the National Disaster Management Agency.
The yacht will also carry loads of already donated supplies from cooperate entities, private donations and Government. Those supplies include water, first aid kits and non-perishable food items.
Donations are ongoing at major retail outlets throughout the Island, including MNIB, all Andall and Associates stores, Foodland, FoodFair, and Real Value supermarkets. Cash donations can be made to the Dominica Relief Fund at the Grenada Cooperative bank, at account number 121004900.
At least two disaster relief teams in Grenada are on standby, on the directive of the Prime Minister, ready to be deployed to Dominica, as needed.
The National Disaster Management Agency continues to interact with counterparts in the region, regarding continuing relief efforts for our brothers and sisters in Dominica.
